Leaflet
1.1. Supply
This leaflet contains important information about your prescribed skin treatment. Please read it carefully before starting treatment and keep it for future reference.
Your treatment has been supplied after completion of an online consultation reviewed by a qualified and licensed UK independent prescriber. The prescriber has determined that active ingredients are clinically appropriate for your skin condition.
Your treatment is supplied as an unlicensed special medicine prepared under Section 10 of the Medicines Act 1968. This means the medicine does not hold a UK marketing authorisation but has been prescribed by a qualified and licensed UK independent prescriber because it is considered clinically appropriate for your individual needs.
1.2. Outcomes
Skin treatments require consistent use over time to achieve the best results. Visible improvement may take up to 12 weeks of regular use.
Results vary between individuals depending on skin type, condition severity, and treatment adherence. Continued use is usually required to maintain results.
2.1. Hyperpigmentation
Hyperpigmentation occurs when excess melanin is produced or unevenly distributed in the skin, leading to darker patches or spots.
Topical active ingredients may help reduce pigmentation by inhibiting melanin production, accelerating skin cell turnover, and promoting a more even skin tone over time.
2.2. Wrinkles
Wrinkles develop as a result of reduced collagen production, cumulative sun exposure, and natural ageing of the skin.
Certain topical actives may help stimulate collagen synthesis, increase skin cell turnover, and improve skin texture and elasticity, which can reduce the visible appearance of fine lines.
2.3. Acne
Acne is commonly caused by excess oil production, blocked pores, bacterial growth, and inflammation.
Topical treatments may help regulate sebum production, promote the shedding of dead skin cells to prevent clogged pores, reduce bacteria associated with acne, and calm inflammation.
2.4. Rosacea
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that can cause facial redness, visible blood vessels, and sometimes inflammatory lesions.
Specific active ingredients may help reduce inflammation, improve skin barrier function, and decrease redness and irritation associated with the condition.
3.1. Actives
Your active ingredients will be confirmed by email and are shown on your dispensing label.
Treatments are typically supplied as a 15g off-white cream in an airtight pump container and may contain up to three of the following active ingredients:
| Active | Property |
| Adapalene | Retinoid and vitamin A derivative that helps regulate cell turnover on the surface of the skin to improve texture and tone. |
| Azelaic Acid | Anti-inflammatory that limits the production of inflammatory-causing molecules to reduce redness and irritation. |
| Clindamycin | Antibiotic that fights bacteria on the skin to decrease bumps and swelling. |
| Ectoine | Antioxidant that increases moisture retention to improve hydration and reduce sensitivity. |
| Hydroquinone | Lightening agent that limits the production of melanin to reduce the appearance of areas of darker skin. |
| Ivermectin | Antiparasitic agent that decreases the number of Demodex mites to reduce redness and swelling. |
| Niacinamide | Antioxidant and vitamin B3 that helps protect against free radicals by repairing and strengthening the barrier function of the skin to lock in moisture. |
| Tranexamic Acid | Lysine derivative that inhibits melanocyte activation to reduce the appearance of areas of darker skin. |
| Tretinoin | Retinoid and vitamin A derivative that regulates the growth of cells on the surface of the skin to improve its texture and tone. |
3.2. Excipients
Some active ingredients require supporting ingredients, known as excipients, which help maintain stability, ensure preservation, and optimise performance.
Treatments containing tretinoin include butylated hydroxytoluene, while treatments containing hydroquinone include both citric acid and sodium metabisulfite.
| Excipient | Property |
| Butylated Hydroxytoluene | Antioxidant and preservative that prevents the growth of bacteria, yeast, and mould to support stability. |
| Citric Acid | Antioxidant and preservative used to help regulate pH and maintain the skin’s barrier function. |
| Sodium Metabisulfite | Antioxidant and preservative used to reduce oxidation and minimise discolouration. |
3.3. Base
Active ingredients and excipients are compounded into a gentle vegan base cream designed to support skin hydration, reduce irritation, and enhance absorption.
All treatments contain the following inactive ingredients:
| Base | Property |
|---|---|
| Water | Primary solvent that helps distribute ingredients evenly across the skin. |
| 1,3-Propanediol | Humectant that improves hydration and enhances absorption of active ingredients. |

4.1. Application
It is important to use your treatment exactly as prescribed to achieve the best possible results.
Apply two pumps to clean, dry skin on the affected area(s) once daily at night.
Wash your hands thoroughly after application. Use a moisturiser and sunscreen daily while using your treatment.
Apply your treatment at the same time each day. If you miss a dose, skip the missed application and continue as normal.
4.2. Adjustments
You may choose to apply your treatment every second night while your skin adjusts.
You may also apply a moisturiser twice daily to help improve skin comfort and hydration.
Either of these adjustments, or a combination of both, may help reduce irritation, particularly when starting treatment.
5.1. Precautions
Take the following precautions when using your treatment.
Do not use your treatment if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in your treatment. Your treatment is for external use only and must not be swallowed. Use only as prescribed and do not exceed the recommended dose or frequency.
Avoid contact with the eyes, lips, and other sensitive areas, and do not apply to irritated, broken, or sunburned skin. Do not apply to skin tags, moles, warts, or any raised or undiagnosed lesions.
Refrain from applying your treatment immediately before or after shaving. Consult your practitioner about when to pause treatment before and after hair removal procedures, injectable procedures, chemical peels, or laser treatments. Avoid sunbeds or excessive sun exposure while using your treatment.
Discontinue the use of other topical or oral retinoids, retinol-containing products, or similar treatments unless advised by a healthcare professional.
Stop using your treatment immediately if you are trying to conceive, become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
Your treatment is prescribed specifically for you and must not be shared with others.
5.2. Storage
Always ensure the safe and responsible handling of your treatment.
Keep your treatment in its original container and do not use it after the expiry date shown on the dispensing label. The container should be kept out of the sight and reach of children.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not refrigerate or freeze.
Keep the container securely closed when not in use to minimise exposure to air and reduce oxidation.
Do not dispose of unused medication down the toilet, sink, or in household waste. Return any unused medication to your pharmacy for safe disposal.
6.1. Common
Mild to moderate dryness, peeling, redness, or tingling are common when starting retinoid-based treatments. This is part of the retinisation process, where the skin adapts to increased cell turnover. These effects typically improve within several weeks. If irritation becomes uncomfortable, reduce application to every other night until symptoms improve.
If you start any new medication or if your medical circumstances change, please contact us.
6.2. Uncommon
Severe inflammation, burning, or other concerning side effects are uncommon. If these occur, stop using your treatment immediately and contact us for further guidance.
If you notice any raised or irregular-shaped lesions or moles, Monderma does not diagnose or treat skin cancers. Seek advice from your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse without delay.
You may also report suspected side effects to the Medicines & Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) through the Yellow Card Scheme on their website or at any pharmacy.
